The following are the options Sacramento CSA members have when it comes to what you can receive each week. You may receive any or all of the following shares each week. Vegetable Share Fruit Share Flower Share Bread Share Grain Share Special Order
Vegetable shares $180 quarter Our vegetable box is a mix of seasonal vegetables that we grow on Good Humus' 20 acres in Hungry Hollow. We also trade with other neighboring farms when we feel that the selection of our produce is not enough. The veggie box usually contains between 7 and 9 items, most of which are vegetables and a few of which are fruit. The box is valued at $15 per week. The box is a mix of only local, seasonal produce, so visit our product list if you would like to see what each season will bring.
A sample Spring Box A sample Summer Box 1/2 pound of spring salad mix 2 pounds of tomatoes 1 bunch of carrots 2 pounds of peaches 3 leeks 4 lemon cucumbers 2 pounds of navel oranges 2 sweet red onions 2 pounds of potatoes 1 pound of eggplant 1 bunch of rosemary 1 bunch of basil 1 bunch of Swiss chard 4 gypsy sweet peppers
The veggie box also contains this weeks newsletter which tells our members about the happenings on the farm each week. There are also recipes for the more unusual items in the box and recipes that are just plain good.
Fruit shares $150 QUARTER The fruit share is much like the veggie box, it contains a variety of seasonal produce. The fruit box however, has only fruit and will never contain any vegetables. Like the vegetable box, we also trade with other farms when our selection of fruit is low. Because there is very little fruit at certain times in the year, we do not deliver fruit boxes from February through May. The fruit box will usually contain 3-4 items each week and is valued at $12.50.
A Sample Summer Fruit box A Sample Fall box 2 lb Peaches 3 lb Apples 2 lb nectarines 4 Persimmons 1 Ambrosia Melon 2 lb Grapes 1 basket Figs 1/2 lb Almonds
The fruit share is delivered in a smaller paper bag, and does not contain a weekly newsletter. Because the share contains mostly commonly known fruits, there are usually no recipes included in the box.
Flower shares $72 QUARTER The flowers we deliver are all grown, picked and bunched by Annie, right here on he farm. The flowers are also seasonal, so, same as the fruit, there are just not enough flowers growing for us to deliver from February through May. When it comes to the flowers, we do not trade with other farms, all the flowers are from Good Humus. These are large, mixed bouquets that have a large variety of flowers and colors. In the summer, Sunflowers, Zinnias, Cosmos, Dalias, Globe Amaranth and Safflower are abundant and make up the majority of the bouquets. In the Spring, the bouquets are brightly colored with Snapdragons, Godetias, Corn Cockles and Lilacs. Each week, the members who have ordered flowers will have a large, mixed bouquet, valued at $6 waiting for them at their drop site.
Bread shares $30 QUARTER The bread share consists of one loaf of bread, from Village Bakery in Davis, each week. We get a variety of breads each week and leave a few of each at each at each drop location so you can get a different type of bread each week. Aziz Attahi satarted Village Bakery in 1997 producing fine, hand-crafted, Artisan breads. His bread is long-fermented and Baked on a stone hearth which gives the bread a unique flavor unlike any other. Aziz uses no conditioners or Preservatives in the bread he bakes, making it an all-natural, healthy bread.
